Hungary Visa

Hungary, renowned for its fascinating culture, breathtaking landscapes, and historical significance, is a European gem that entices tourists from around the globe. Whether you are contemplating a business trip, a vacation, or an extended sojourn in this captivating nation, it is critical to possess knowledge regarding the Hungarian visa procedure in order to ensure a seamless and unforgettable experience.

Is Hungary Part of Schengen Visa?

Hungary, being a member state of the Schengen Area, is entitled to the same rights as the other twenty-six states. This indicates that Hungary’s visa policy is consistent with that of the Schengen area.

Hungary commenced its application of the Schengen agreement in December 2007, having ratified it in April 2003. The agreement grants unrestricted travel within the Schengen Area to citizens of member states.

Do I Need a Visa to Go to Hungary?

The following do not require a visa to enter Hungary:

  • A resident of the EU or EEA. Individuals from other Schengen states are permitted unrestricted access to Hungary.
  • A citizen of a nation that has ratified a visa-free agreement. Foreign nationals of the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand are permitted a maximum stay of 90 days in Hungary.

If you do not fall into any of the two categories mentioned above, then you must apply for a Schengen Visa to enter Hungary.

Hungary Visa Types

Prior to submitting an application for a Hungary visa, you must select the appropriate visa type in accordance with your travel purpose, as detailed below:

  • Hungarian Tourist Permit. Tourist visas are authorized for entry into Hungary for a restricted duration of 90 days. During this period, this type of visa permits entry into other Schengen states for a single, double, or multiple purposes.
  • Visa for Hungarian transit. A transit visa grants its possessor permission to enter and remain within the international zone of an airport until they are able to board another flight to their country of destination. Even if you must wait an additional night in the international transit area of an airport, the transit visa prohibits you from departing.
  • Hungary employs long-term visas. Long-stay visas are granted for stays that are significantly longer in duration. A Hungary long-stay visa is required, for instance, if one intends to remain in Hungary for a duration exceeding three months. Different types of long-stay visas are available, depending on the objective of your trip:
    • Work Visa to Hungary. Working in Hungary for an extended period of time, exceeding three months, requires the acquisition of a work visa. The proprietorship of a Hungarian-owned enterprise or employment with said organization are both qualifying criteria for work visas.
    • Visa for students to Hungary. Students wishing to spend more than three months in Hungary must obtain a Hungary Student Visa. This visa grants the holder permission to remain in Hungary until the conclusion of the academic program in which they are enrolled.
    • Family Hungarian Visa. A family visa is required for anyone who wishes to visit family members (spouse, children, parents, etc.) who are already residing in Hungary. The validity of a family visa is for four years; an extension of four years is possible.
    • Working Holiday Visa for Hungary. A working holiday visa is granted to individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who wish to travel to Hungary to experience its culture and way of life. This type of one-year visa permits young foreign nationals to remain and work in Hungary for the duration of their visa.
