Hungary, being a member state of the Schengen Area, is entitled to the same rights as the other twenty-six states. This indicates that Hungary’s visa policy is consistent with that of the Schengen area.
Hungary commenced its application of the Schengen agreement in December 2007, having ratified it in April 2003. The agreement grants unrestricted travel within the Schengen Area to citizens of member states.

Your visa application may be appealed to the embassy within eight days of receiving the denial notice.
The letter of appeal to the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs should be composed on A4 paper and include an explanation of the grounds for the appeal in Hungarian or another official language of the European Union.
You must provide an official translation by a certified translator if the appeal is composed in a language other than English. Furthermore, a payment of €30 will be mandatory for the appeals procedure. The fee may be remitted concurrently with the submission of the letter of appeal.
Contrarily, you do not. U.S. citizens are granted visa-free entry to Hungary for a maximum period of 90 days. It is possible that you are traveling for business or pleasure. To remain for a duration in excess of three months, however, one must submit an application for a long-stay visa.
An extension of your Hungary visa is permissible solely under extraordinary circumstances involving the emergence of new information or special reasons subsequent to your entry into the country. To apply for an extension, you must submit the following documents:
