The Republic of Bulgaria is the sixteenth largest country in Europe, spanning 110,994 square kilometres of land. It is located in Southeast Europe. The prime minister is the most powerful executive position in Bulgaria’s parliamentary system. Bulgaria’s population, as determined by the 2011 national census, is around 7,360,000, of which 72.5% live in urban areas.At 1,330,000, Sofia is both the capital and the most populous urban area. Other notable cities are:
- Plovdiv – the second-largest city, regarded as a significant hub for education, culture, and the economy,
- Varna – It is the third-largest city and a coastal resort on Bulgaria’s Black Sea Coast.
- Burgas –the second-largest city on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast and the capital of the Burgas Province.
Since its adoption in 865, Eastern Orthodox Christianity has been the predominant religion in Bulgaria. While maintaining the right to practise any religion, the Bulgarian Constitution recognises Orthodox Christianity as the recognised and established religion.
