Permanent abode for the British Virgin Islands
Those who are financially independent or operate a business in the Virgin Islands are granted Temporary Residency of the BVI, commonly referred to as TR of the BVI and Temporary Residence for the BVI.
The following paperwork is needed to obtain a temporary BVI residency:
- A valid ID, such as a passport or ID card
- statements from banks,
- Evidence of self-sufficiency for BVI temporary residency,
- two police certificate copies,
- a medical certification
The most prevalent BVI visa categories are:
- BVI tourist visa
- BVI transit visa
- BVI business visa
British Virgin Islands permanent residency
With the exception of illness and education, citizens of British Virgin Islands are granted permanent residency after 20 years of residency.
In addition to being granted temporary residency, permanent residence in the BVI can also be obtained by those with a net worth of $25 million or those holding senior management positions in BVI-operating companies.
The BVI only admits a maximum of 25 residents.
The following paperwork is needed for BVI permanent residency:
- statements from banks.
- Evidence of financial stability.
- certification of medical status.
- records from the police.
For permanent residence in the British Virgin Islands, the following documents can also be needed:
- a certificate of valid registration.
- Evidence of your nationality submitted with your application for BVI permanent residence.
- Evidence demonstrating you have been working, learning, being self-employed, being self-sufficient, or looking for job, such as pay stubs, bank statements, and tax returns.
Nationality of the British Virgin Islands (BVI):
Those who are British citizens and have had full British citizenship since 2002 are known as BVI citizens.
It is only fitting that BVI citizens be EU citizens as well.
The following paperwork is needed for BVI citizenship:
- Local Police File
- Document of financial security
- Social Security in exchange for BVI citizenship
- Image (1)
- Pound bank draft
- BVI citizenship naturalization/registration certificate
If you do not have a BVI residency permit or are not a naturalized citizen, you must apply for a work permit in order to be able to work in the BVI.
BVI work licenses are issued for a duration of five years. You should also leave the country once the work permit expires and return to reapply for a work permit.
Those whose jobs are shown to be irreplaceable are awarded work permits.
You should obtain a document verifying your job from the Labor Department and transmit it to your employer before entering the BVI.
In order to obtain a BVI work visa, you must:
1) dispatch a letter to the employer from the Labor Department,
2) Two police record copies
3) Health certification
