Temporary Residency for Georgia | TR for Georgia
The Temporary Residence Permit is issued to an alien who has been identified as a victim of Domestic Violence in accordance with the Georgia Law on the Exclusion of Domestic Violence and Protection of and Support for its Victims.
Anyone who enters Georgia states with a full passport and visa can apply for a temporary stay permit, which can be renewed for up to six years. The residence permit is granted by the local government of the applicant’s state of residence. Most of the time, people who enter Georgia states for medical treatment or for business purposes are welcomed warmly.
Citizenship for Georgia:
Georgia citizenship can be acquired by anyone who has resided in the country for a minimum of 5 years. Candidates must take a language test, which will also assess their general understanding of the applicant’s background and family history.
If you’re a foreign national who’s married to a Georgian national, you can get Georgian citizenship. You’ll need a marriage anniversary certificate when you apply for citizenship.
The Organic Law of Georgia on Georgian Citizenship defines 5 types of citizenship:
1) Granting citizenship under the regular procedure,
2) Granting citizenship under the simplified procedure,
3) Granting citizenship by way of exception,
4) Granting citizenship by way of its restoration,
5) Granting citizenship under special procedure.
Of these 5 types, exception Georgian citizenship is the most sought after. Exception Georgian citizenship is issued to a foreign national who has rendered an exceptional service to Georgia or who is to be issued Georgian citizenship on grounds of state interests.
Work Permit for Georgia
In order to work in Georgia, foreign nationals must obtain a work permit. Foreign nationals may also engage in work activities in Georgia if they hold a visa. However, it is important to note that nationals of certain states are entitled to travel to the country without the need for a visa.
Visa for working in Georgia
To work in Georgia, a person has to apply for a ‘long-term visa’, which will allow him to get a permanent residence permit in Georgia. The long-term visas obtained by the foreign nationals can be used as work permits when they are looking to enter the labor force of Georgia. Short-term visas cannot be issued for employment purposes in Georgia, according to the local law.
If you are a citizen of one of these countries, you are not required to obtain a visa to enter Georgia. However, even in this case, you can stay in Georgia only for 1 year. This regulation applies to all citizens of EU Member States and to nationals of other 64 countries. In accordance with Georgia’s legislation, this regulation also applies to those who have obtained the status of refugees in Georgia. It also applies to diplomatic passports of Chinese, Egyptian, Uruguayan, and Peruvian citizens.
Visa for Georgia
Types of visas:
There are 5 categories of Georgian visa:
- A category – diplomatic visa,
- B category – special visa,
- C category – ordinary visa,
- D category – immigration visa,
- T category – transit visa.
A – Diplomatic Visa
- A1 category visa are given to high-ranking officials from foreign governments, top and high-ranking delegations, and family members who are coming to the country on a state, business, friendlier, official, or informal visit.
- A2 category visa is issued to employees of diplomatic missions accredited to Georgia and equivalent missions, to officials and their families, to employees of representative offices of international organizations established in Georgia who have been accredited by Georgia, and to their families.
- A3 category visa is diplomatic couriers and people who come to the country on special diplomatic missions are eligible for this.
- A4 category visa are issued to Georgian Honorary Consuls and members of their families as long as they are citizens of another country.
- A5 category visa are given to people with business/official/regular passports who come to Georgia on various missions for Georgia’s national interest, including people with diplomatic passports who come to work in Georgia..
B – Special Visa
- B1 category visa are issued to members of delegations from foreign countries, persons with service passports who are coming to Georgia for work purposes, their families and other people accompanying them.
- B2 category visa A2 diplomatic visa is issued to personnel employed by foreign diplomatic missions and consular offices, as well as to personnel employed by international and humanitarian organizations placed in the country. This visa is valid for both technical and service workers, as well as their family members and domestic employers who accompany them.
- B3 category visa is issued to a person who enters Georgia in accordance with a bilateral or multilateral agreement of Georgia, to peacekeepers, and to members of other military formations used in Georgia in accordance with an international agreement and their families.
- B4 category visa is issued to an individual who comes to Georgia on behalf of a mission that is in the nation’s interest.
C – Ordinary Visa
C1 category visa is granted to individuals who arrive in Georgia for tourism purposes.
C2 category visa are issued to people who travel to Georgia for the purpose of visiting family and friends, as well as to freelancers..
C3 category visa is granted to:
Participants in scientific workshops, cultural, educational, or sporting activities, people travelling to Georgia for business meetings and negotiations, conferences, and other research
Those who come to the nation to carry out journalistic work,
Crew members of ships docked in Georgian ports, unless their ability to travel without a visa is guaranteed by an international agreement,
Drivers and co-drivers who perform international cargo/civil transportation.
C4 category visa is granted to:
People who come to Georgia for the purpose of receiving or delivering humanitarian aid during emergencies and life and health threats to carry out charitable activities.
A Georgian national’s guardian or caretaker Individuals under Georgian national’s guardianship/care People who come to Georgia for treatment People who visit relatives’ or friends’ graves People who come on pilgrimage
D – Immigration Visa
D1 category visa is granted to:
Individuals who travel to Georgia for the purpose of performing official duties, such as representatives and consultants of companies.,
Aliens, who come to Georgia for contracted work,
People who immigrate to Georgia for the purpose of conducting business activities in accordance with the Georgia Business Act.
D2 category visa are issued to individuals who are coming to Georgia for the purpose of conducting scientific, cultural, sporting, or educational activities, freelancers, foreign nationals, interns or volunteers, and press workers who are coming to the country for the purpose of their professional activities.
D3 category visa are issued to applicants who travel to Georgia for the purpose of studying or conducting research at an accredited educational institution or who travel to the country for the purpose of participating in an international study program.
D4 category visa is issued to individuals who are travelling to Georgia in order to reunite with their family.
D5 category visa is issued to the applicants and their dependents who, in accordance with the law of Georgia, are entitled to immovable property with a market value of at least USD 35000 equivalent in Georgian Lira (GEL).
T – Transit Visa
The T category visa is issued to foreign nationals who transit through Georgia in order to enter the third country. The maximum duration of this visa is 10 days.
Procedures for obtaining a visa
While Georgian visas are issued by the country’s diplomatic missions and foreign consular offices, the electronic visa is issued by Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the foreign national after the foreign national submits the relevant visa application via the Ministry’s website – evisa.gaza.ge. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs may also grant the foreign national an immigration visa if the foreign national is residing legally in Georgia.
Foreign nationals residing in countries in which Georgia does not maintain a diplomatic mission or consular office may apply to Georgia’s diplomatic mission and consular offices in the neighbouring countries. Foreign nationals who are not residing in their respective home countries may apply to Georgia’ diplomatic missions and foreign consular offices in their respective countries of residence. In these cases, foreign nationals must possess a valid multiple entry visa or valid residence permit of their home country.
All necessary documents for issuing an immigration visa to a permanent resident of Georgia can be submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Public Service Hall branches, regional agencies of Public Service development and the Community Centers. All the abovementioned institutions can stamp a visa into your travel document or grant you an electronic visa.
An immigration visa is issued to an alien who is legally residing in Georgia by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
Extending visa
If you’re an alien living in Georgia, you can apply for a short-term extension of your diplomatic (a) or special (b) visa, as well as a d3 or d5 immigration visa.
The documents necessary for the short-term extension of the diplomatic and special visa must be submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, whereas the documents necessary for the extension of the D3 and the D5 category immigration visa may be submitted to the ministry of foreign affairs of Georgia, Public Service Hall branches, territorial offices of Public Service development agency, and Community Centers.
