Permanent residency for Hungary
People are eligible to apply for permanent residence in Hungary after five years of valid residency. Permission for permanent residency is granted right away in the event of a family reunion or marriage to a Hungarian national.
Residence permit requirements include:
- completed application
- documents confirming relationship (birth, adoption, marriage certificate)
- proof of sufficient financial means
- medical insurance
The holder of a permanent residence has all the same rights as citizens, with the exception of the ability to vote. Every ten years, the document is refreshed, but the requirements remain the same.
Work Permit for Hungary:
As a result of Hungary’s membership in the EU, EU nationals can now live there without a visa. Nevertheless, as Hungary has not yet fully embraced this policy, in order to lawfully work in Hungary, regardless of whether you are an EEA citizen or a national of another country, you must get a work visa. Typically, your employer completes the application process. In order to obtain a work permit or to stay temporarily for employment, candidates must also submit an application for permission of temporary stay.
Documentation required for the work permits includes:
- The original and copy of the applicant’s passport with the visa stamped by a notary
- A copy of the White Card (extended residency permit);
- A letter of request from the employing company explaining the nature of the job and why a suitable Hungarian national could not be found to fill the job;
- Proof of the employee’s professional and educational qualification (diploma; certificate etc.)
- A Certificate that confirms company registration, employment contract or some other evidence of the nature of the business to be established (in the case of a new investor)
- A filled in standard application form (Form S-1).
- Proof of means of financial support
- Health insurance certificate
In order for the documents to be relevant for the application, they must be translated into Hungarian if they are in a foreign language. Furthermore, only authentic documents or authenticated copies are permitted.
You may be able to apply for an EU Blue Card based on your qualifications and the kind of work you want to undertake. The majority of EU members are granted the freedom to labour under this document (Denmark, Ireland, and the UK excepted). In order to be eligible for a Blue Card, you must be a national of a non-EU country, possess a binding job offer or an active work contract, and be highly skilled with at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or five years of senior acknowledged experience.
Visa for Hungary:
Short-stay visas
You risk being denied admission to Hungary if you don’t have the necessary papers and visas before you fly there.
Visitor visa
The maximum validity period for this kind of visa is one year. A legitimate official invitation letter is required, and foreign nationals with a valid residence permit in Hungary or Hungarian residents can obtain one.
It is necessary to obtain the Invitation Letter from the Hungarian Immigration Office. The person sending out the invitation must demonstrate that they will cover the guest’s costs and assume full responsibility for the visitor while he is in Hungary.
Following the invitation, the visitor has to physically apply for a visitor’s visa at the Hungarian consulate or embassy in the nation in which they now reside.
Business visa
The maximum validity period for this kind of visa is three months. To apply for a business visa, you need to obtain a legitimate invitation letter, just like you would for a visitor visa. An official or a legal body, such as a Hungarian firm, may obtain this official invitation letter.
The inviting organisation must apply for the invitation letter at the Hungarian Immigration Office, demonstrating that the visitor’s visit is being paid for by the inviting organisation and that the visitor is travelling to Hungary on business.
Once the invitation letter is prepared, the guest applies in person for a business visa at the Hungarian consulate or embassy that is closest to them.
Tourist visa
Since a tourist visa is a short-term visa that permits temporary residence in Hungary, the application process is quick. In order to obtain a tourist visa, you must apply at the Hungarian consulate in your present place of residence. When you present your airline ticket, evidence of lodging, and a bank account statement demonstrating that you have enough money to fund your stay in Hungary, the consulate will issue you a tourist visa.
Medical visa
Any foreign national planning to receive medical care in Hungary must provide a certificate from the hospital where the procedure will be performed, evidence of enough finances, and travel and lodging arrangements.
National Visa
Only nationals of Serbia, Croatia, and Ukraine may obtain this kind of visa. A national visa is given in order to facilitate family reunion, assist study at a Hungarian college, and aid in the preservation of the Hungarian language and national identity. Applications are typically accepted for a period of 15 days following confirmation of the intent to enter, settle, and provide for oneself while visiting. This kind of visa does not grant the right to work; in order to work legally, one must have both a work permit and a work visa.
Transit visa
Since the EU and some foreign nationals are members of the Schengen Agreement, transit proposals do not require a visa for those who possess:
- A valid residence permit granted in Liechtenstein or Switzerland,
- The duration of a transit visa is limited to 5 days.
