Is Paraguay a Safe Country to Visit?

When visiting Paraguay, you should travel with extreme caution because of both serious and minor crimes. While pickpockets prey on visitors regularly, both urban and rural regions see armed robberies, car theft, and burglaries. Motorcyclists should be avoided as they are frequently seeking to mug someone.

The departments of Amambay and Canindeyú should be avoided because of the high rates of drug trafficking and criminality. In addition, steer clear of the northern San Pedro department and the southern Concepcion department, as these areas are home to armed guerrilla-style organizations that frequently kidnap people for ransom.
