When applying for a Russian visa, you will need to submit a number of documents as part of your application. Based on these documents, the Russian embassy in your country of residence will make a decision regarding your case. You must pay special attention to these documents and submit all of them as required.
Note that the list of documents required to apply for a Russian visa varies depending on your nationality and the type of visa you are applying for.
The standard documents required to apply for a visa to Russia are:
- Visa application form. Complete the electronic form on the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MID), kdmid.ru, indicating all requested information. Make sure your answers are correct, then print the form.
- Valid passport. Your passport must be valid for at least six months after the expiration of the visa you are applying for. Additionally, it must have at least two blank pages, not necessarily consecutive.
- A recent Russian visa photograph. Glue this photo to the indicated space in the printed application form.
- Proof of residence. If you are not applying from your home country, but rather from a country where you are residing, you should submit proof of residence in that particular country for the last 90 days.
- Visa support. It was an invitation to travel to Russia. This could be an invitation from a hotel, friend, company, etc., depending on the purpose of your trip.
Depending on your country of residence and the type of visa you are applying for, you may also need to submit the following documents to apply for a Russian visa.
- Bank statement. If you are self-employed, manage a business, work remotely or are unemployed, you will need to present a bank statement for the last three months. These bank statements must prove that you have a minimum of €115 for each day you plan to stay in Russia.
- Health Insurance. Submit a confirmation that you have purchased health insurance in Russia. It should show the validity for the duration of the journey as well as indicate the geographical area coverage.
- Letters of Employer. You must submit a letter written and signed by your employer. It will provide complete details about you, your destination, date and purpose of your visit. It must also indicate the name of the inviting organization and contact details of the responsible person in Russia. The letter should also explain who will be financially responsible for the trip.
- Vehicle registration certificate. If you come to Russia to travel by car, you must present your vehicle registration. A cover letter with detailed information about the trip, itinerary and other travelers accompanying you will also be required in this case.
- Copy of ticket to and from Russia.
- HIV (AIDS) test certificate. This test is only required for Russian student visas and Russian work visas and must be taken within three months before applying.
