A Belarusian visa is a permit to travel, enter and stay in the country for a limited period of time, for specific purposes.

Who Needs a Visa for Belarus?

Upon arrival in Belarus, citizens of most countries in the world will have to apply and obtain a visa to enter the country.

However, Belarusian authorities have approved several visa-free travel programs for those coming to the country for tourism or business purposes.

According to the visa exemption regulations of the Republic of Belarus, citizens of: do not need a visa:

30-Days of Visa-free Stay for Travelers Entering through Minsk Airport

In addition, Belarus also has another policy that allows visitors from certain other countries to enter and stay in Belarus for a maximum period of 30 days, with the only condition that they enter the country through the National Airport.

Citizens of Gambia, Haiti, India, Lebanon, Namibia, Samoa and Vietnam can also enter Belarus without a visa through Minsk National Airport provided they also have:

  1. Multiple entry visa or a national visa issued by an EU country/Schengen member country (residence permit is not accepted in such cases).
  2. Entry stamp from one of these countries in his passport.
  3. Valid return ticket from Minsk National Airport.

 

10-Days of Visa-free Stay for Travelers to Brest and Grodno

The same travelers who are allowed to enter Belarus without a visa, as long as they enter through Minsk National Airport, can also enter Belarus without a visa and stay there for up to 10 days when visiting the Brest region and the region Grodno.
However, they must obtain a special document issued by an approved travel agency in their country of origin.

They must pass through one of the following checkpoints:

  1. Brest tourist and entertainment area:
    • Car inspection Brest (Terespol), Domachevo (Slawatycze), Peschatka (Polowce).
    • Pererov Small Border Checkpoint (Bialowieza).
    • Brest Border Railway (Terespol).
    • Brest airport border post.
  2. Augustow Canal Park:
    • Bruzgi Car Checkpoint (Kuznica Bialostocka), Privalka (Raigardas).
    • Minor border checkpoints Lesnaya (Rudawka), Privalka (Svendubre).
    • Railway border checkpoint Grodno (Kuznica Bialostocka).
    • Airport border checkpoint Grodno.

Note: All persons arriving in Belarus without a visa and intending to stay for a period of more than 5 days must register within 5 days of arrival in Belarus with the local police department.

 

 
 

Required Documents for a Belarus Visa

To receive a visa, you must submit the following documents to the consular section or local representative office:

  1. Visa application form.
    Complete the form without leaving any spaces. If the question does not apply to you, enter “Not applicable. ” If the answer is no, write “no. ” You must personally sign the form, while the form for minors must be signed by their legal representative.
  2. Passport photos.
    It must be in 35×45 mm, high resolution format, showing your entire face against a clear and uniform background.
  3. Your valid passport.
    It must be valid for at least another 90 days after you leave Belarus. It should also have at least two blank pages for the visa.
  4. Original letter of invitation, with the signature and, if a business, seal of the inviting party.
  5. Medical insurance policy.
    It must be valid for the whole period of your stay in Belarus with a minimum coverage of 10,000 euros.
  6. Other documents stipulated by the Consular office according to the nature of your visit and the type of visa you are applying for.

Required Documents for a Belarus Short-Term Visa

For the purpose of business, participation in sport or cultural events:

  1. An original letter of visa support of a legal entity.
    The letter must be issued on the letterhead with the full name of the entity, its location and phone number.

For private purposes – one of the following documents:

  1. An original invitation, issued by the local unit of the Citizenship and Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.
  2. Official confirmation of serious illness or death of a close relative or spouse, if the purpose of your trip to Belarus is to visit a close relative or spouse seriously ill or who died in Belarus.
  3. An original document, confirming the ownership of the real estate property in Belarus.
  4. Visa application letter from a Belarusian medical institution or a medical service contract with a Belarusian medical institution, if you come for medical treatment in Belarus.

For tourism — one of the following original documents:

  1. Letter of support for visa application from a Belarusian travel agency, stating that the foreign citizen will comply with the regulations of stay in the Republic Belarus.
    It must be issued on letterhead with the full name of the travel company, its location and phone number.
  2. Letter of support for visa application from sanatorium and health resort or recreation center, issued on letterhead with full name, location and telephone number, purpose, duration of stay of the employee foreign nationals, services provided, booking confirmation and full or partial prepayment of services.
  3. Letter of support for visa application from representative of an agritourism company with name and address, purpose, length of stay of foreign national and services provided.

For visiting the burial places:

  1. An original certificate of the local executive committee, confirming the fact of burial in the Republic of Belarus and the maintenance of the graves of close relatives or spouse of a foreign citizen.

To study:

  1. An original invitation of the Belarusian educational institution.
    The document must be approved by the Citizenship and Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

For religious reasons:

  1. Original letter of visa support for a religious association, issued on letterhead with the full name of the religious association, its location and telephone number .

To carry out humanitarian programs, including foreign donations, recreation, children’s entertainment, and volunteer work:

  1. Visa support letter from the Department of Humanitarian Activities of the Presidential Administration Republic of Belarus or other authorized government agency of the Republic of Belarus.

For journalistic activities:

  1. Certification of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.

For employment – ​​one of the following documents:

  1. Copy of the special work permit issued by the local unit of the Department of Citizenship and Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus. The license must be certified by a Belarusian notary.
  2. Relevant confirmation of the local unit of the Department of Citizenship and Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.
    This document must be submitted directly to the embassy/consulate.

Documents required to apply for a long-term Belarusian visa

For business purposes:

  1. Original visa support letter from a Belarusian legal entity.
  2. One document proving the need to visit the Republic of Belarus multiple times during the validity period of the requested visa.

To participate in sporting or cultural events:

  1. Original visa support letter from a Belarusian legal entity.
  2. One document proving the need to visit the Republic of Belarus multiple times during the validity period of the requested visa.

For personal purposes – one of the following original documents:

  1. Invitation issued by the local unit of the Department of Citizenship and Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.
  2. Documents proving the existence of ownership rights to a house/apartment on the territory of the Republic of Belarus – of the owner and his family members.
  3. Medical services contract with a Belarusian healthcare facility, drawn up in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Belarus – for processing visas for foreigners requiring medical care provided in Belarus, as well as for the person I’m traveling with, if necessary.

Visit to the burial site:

  1. Original certificate issued by the local executive committee, confirming the burial on the territory of the Republic of Belarus and preservation of the grave of a relative or spouse of a foreign citizen

  1. Visa application letter from the Department of Humanitarian Activities of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Republic of Belarus or other authorized government agency of the Republic of Belarus Belarus.

For journalistic activities:

  1. Certification of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.

For employment:

  1. Copy of a special work permit issued by the regional branch of the Department of Citizenship and Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, certified by a Belarusian notary.

Where to Apply for a Belarus Visa?

To apply for a Belarusian visa, you need to apply to one of the following Belarusian representations, based in your country of residence:

  1. Consular Section of Belarus.
  2. Diplomatic missions of Belarus.
  3. Consular Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Minsk Airport, if there is no Belarus representative office in your country of residence.

 

Belarus Visa Application Process

When applying for a visa to Belarus, you will need to complete several steps. Once you know where you need to apply, check to see if you need to make an appointment, or you can apply without an appointment.

Once you understand all of this, continue with the procedures, including gathering the necessary documents to apply for a visa. You should ask the Belarusian authorities representing your country to provide you with a list of documents you need to submit. 

On the day you submit these documents, you will also have to attend a visa interview with a consular officer, who will ask you some questions about the intended purpose of your trip to Belarus.

 

Belarus Visa Processing

A Belarus visa application file may take up to five workdays to be processed. You will get an answer on your application after 5 days of submission, the latest.

Belarus Visa Fees

The Belarus visa fees, regardless of the visa type of the number of entries as €80 individual visa applications and €10 per person for group visa applications. Belarus Visa fees for nationals of a few countries are a bit different though. Citizens of Japan and Serbia in need of a visa are exempted from consular fees for any kind of visas.

Whereas, nationals of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland need to pay the following fees, when in need of a visa:

  1. Transit visa (type B):
    • Single – €10
    • Double – €15
    • Group single (per person) – €10
    • Group double (per person) – €18
    • Multiple-entry – €35
  2. Short-term visa (type C):
    • Single – €25
    • Double – €35
    • Group single (per person) – €10
    • Group double (per person) – €18
    • Multiple-entry – €80
  3. Long-term visa (type D) – €80

On the other side, foreigners under the age of 14 years old are exempt from paying Belarus Visa Fees. Foreigner

Applications Subject to Belarus Visa Fee Surcharge:

Visa applications will be subject to a specific surcharge in the cases explained below:

  • Surcharge of 100% – for visa applications handled urgently, within two days, by foreign diplomatic institutions of the Republic of Belarus.
  • Surcharge of 50% – for visa applications submitted to the central consular affairs office by nationals of the countries where there is no Belarusian diplomatic mission.
  • Surcharge of 200% – when nationals of the countries where there is a Belarusian diplomatic mission request a visa at the central consular affairs office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In addition, visas processed at Minsk National Airport usually cost double the standard tariff.

 

Belarus Visa-On-Arrival

Belarus also makes it easier to obtain a visa upon arrival at Minsk National Airport.

Applications must be submitted no later than 3 working days before the expected arrival date for short-term visas and no later than 5 working days before the expected arrival date for long-term visas.
