Who Needs a Visa for Belize?

If you are a foreign citizen coming from one of the countries listed below, you need a visa to enter Belize:

People from any of the countries listed below require a visa to enter Belize in the following situations.

  1. Citizens of the Republic of Venezuela require a visa if they plan to stay more than 30 days in Belize.
  2. Citizens of the Republic of Argentina require a visa if they plan to stay more than 90 days in Belize.
  3. US citizens require a visa if they plan to stay more than 180 days in Belize.

Duration of Belize Visa

The duration of a Belize visa depends on the type of visa you are applying for. So, if you apply for a short-term stay visa, you are allowed to stay in Belize for three months. If you apply for a long-term visa, you can stay in Belize for one year.

 
 

Residence Permit for Belize

If you plan to stay in Belize for more than a year, you must apply for a Belize residence permit from the Immigration Department. Depending on the purpose of your stay in Belize, there are two types of residence permits:

  1. Temporary residence permit.
  2. Permanent residence permit.

Temporary Residence Permit

Temporary Residence Permit is issued to applicants who wish to invest in Belize. To apply for a temporary residence permit, you must demonstrate that you are financially stable and able to invest at least BZ$500,000 in Belize. The duration of a temporary residence permit is one year. However, it becomes renewable at the end of its period.

Note: The temporary residence permit is issued to applicants who want to invest in Belize but, due to outside obligations, they can not live there.

Permanent Residence Permit

A permanent residence permit allows you to stay longer than one year in Belize. However, before applying for a permanent residence permit, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. You must have lived in Belize for one year with a long-stay visa.
  2. You must not leave the country for more than 14 days in a period of one year.
  3. You must demonstrate to the Department of Immigration that you are financially stable.
  4. You must prove that you are not a threat to the Republic of Belize.

Belize Visa Requirements

Below are all the necessary documents you need to submit to apply for a Belize visa:

  1. Valid passport. Your passport must be valid and in good condition. Be sure to include a copy of your previous visa (if applicable).
  2. One passport-sized photo. Your photo must have been taken recently within the last six months.
  3. Application form. Complete the Belize application form completely online. After completing the form, sign at the end.
  4. Fee receipt. You can complete payment of fees at the Belizean embassy/consulate in your country. After completing the payment, make sure you attach the receipt to the requested documents.
  5. Flight itinerary. The flight itinerary is a document that explains your flight process, such as flight date and time, airplane airline name, return flight ticket, etc.
  6. Bank statement. The bank statement document is a document that proves you are financially stable and that you can finance yourself while in Belize.
  7. Health insurance. Valid health insurance covers any medical expenses you have during your stay in Belize.
  8. Proof of residence. Proof of Accommodation is an important document that proves that you have accommodation during your stay in Belize. This document could be a rental contract, a hotel reservation, or an invitation from a friend or family member.
  9. Invitation letter. An invitation letter is a document issued by a family member, friend or relative to prove you have a sponsor and accommodation in Belize.
  10. Criminal records. A criminal record is a document issued by the police in your country and it must prove that you do not pose a threat to the Republic of Belize.

How to Apply for an Belize Visa?

  1. Begin by clicking on the “Login” button, which can be found in the menu on the right side of the screen.
  2. If you haven’t registered yet, please register yourself first. After registering, proceed to log in to the panel.
  3. Once you are logged in, navigate to the menu on the left side of the panel.
  4. Select the “Visa Application Form” option from the menu.
  5. Fill out this form with the required information.
  6. Finally, submit the completed form.

Belize Visa Fees

You can complete payment of the visa application fee at the Belizean embassy/consulate in your home country after submitting your application. However, payment of the Belize fee may vary depending on the country of origin, age and type of visa you are applying for:

  1. Citizens of the Republic of China : Single Entry : $3,000
  2. Citizens of India, Nepal, Thailand and Burma Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka : Single entry : $750
  3. Other nationals : Single entry : $200
  4. Nationals of the Republic of China : Multiple entries : $4,000
  5. Nationals of India, Nepal, Thailand and Burma Electricity Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka : Multiple entries : $1,000
  6. Other Citizens : Multiple entries : $300

*Once payment is complete, attach the payment receipt to your application.

Long-Stay Visas for Belize

A long-term visa is a visa issued for one year. However, depending on the length of your stay in Belize, there are different types of long-term stay visas, such as:

  1. Work.
  2. Research .
  3. Investment .
  4. Family reunion.

If you are issued a long-stay visa and want to stay longer than one year in Belize, you can apply for a permanent residence permit.

Belize Retirement Visa

If you want to retire in a magical country like Belize, you need to apply for a Belize retirement visa. To qualify for a Belize retirement visa, you must meet some of the following criteria:

  1. You must be over 45 years old.
  2. You must prove that you are not a threat to the Republic of Belize.
  3. You must demonstrate that you have a monthly income of $2,000 or $24,000 per year generated from a source outside of Belize.
  4. You must stay in Belize for at least 30 consecutive days each year.
