Unless you are a visa-free citizen, you will need a Chilean visa to travel to Chile. The Chilean government has made the process of applying for a Chilean visa easy and smooth, allowing you to apply online from home. The type of Chile visa you need to apply for depends on your reason for travel.

Who Needs a Chile Visa?

Certain nationals are free to travel to Chile using their passport (and sometimes just their ID card) for stays of up to 90 days. Nationals of these countries do not need to apply for a Chile visa before traveling, but will receive a tourist card from the immigration office upon arrival. All other nationals who are not exempt from a Chilean visa must apply for a visa before being allowed to travel to Chile.

Chile Visa Requirements for Minors Under 18 Years of Age

If a minor is traveling to Chile, they must also submit the following documents for visa application and arrival in Chile:

Birth certificate.
Notarized written permission to travel from a parent or guardian if the child is traveling alone or with someone other than the parent.
If the child is traveling with only one parent/guardian, notarized permission from the other parent/guardian.

In addition, children must leave the country with the same adult they entered the country with or have permission signed by both parents.

What are the Types of Chile visa?

The most common types of Chile visa are:

Chile Tourist Visa issued to foreign nationals for the purpose of tourism for stays of 30-90 days.
Chile Student Visa issued to foreign nationals who want to pursue their studies in Chile. You must be enrolled/accepted in a Chilean educational institution before you travel.
Chile Work visa, issued to foreign nationals who have found employment in Chile. You need to have an already existing work contract with a Chilean company or a foreign company that operates in Chile.
Chile Temporary Resident Visa. It is issued to foreigners who have family ties to Chile and wish to invest or who are considered beneficial to the Chilean economy. It will be issued for a maximum of one year.
Chile Working Holiday Visa. For young people from Australia, Canada and New Zealand who wish to join a working holiday program.
The Chile Retirement and Regular Income Visa is a type of visa that requires any type of regular income, including a pension.

Chile Visa Requirements

If you are applying for a Chilean visa, you will need several supporting documents such as:

A copy of your passport pages containing your personal information, issue/expiry date, and previous visa.
- Passport must be valid for at least 6 months.
If applicable, proof of your legal status in your country of residence (for example, if you have permanent residence in a country other than your country of origin, please attach a copy of your PR card).
Digital passport photo:
- Must be taken in a studio (taken by a professional).
- Background must be plain white or cream colored.
- Must be colored.
- You must present yourself clearly and with a neutral expression.
- Size must be 4.5 x 4.5 cm (2 inches x 2 inches).
- You may not wear hats or headgear that cover your hair/hairline or face.
- Everyday wear should be simple.
- You must remove your glasses.
Flight routes and reservations.
Proof of hotel reservation/stay.

A letter explaining the reason for the trip.
Invitation (if applicable)

Documents must be attached to the Chilean visa online application service in PDF format. Documents should be named accordingly. For example, if you want to attach a flight reservation, name the document “Your Last Name Flight Registration.

How to Apply for an Chile Visa?

When to Apply for a Chile visa?

Chile Visa Fees

There is no standard set of visa fees for Chile. The fee prices can range from around $50 to $150, depending on your nationality and the type of visa you are applying for (a single entry visa is cheaper than a multiple entry visa, for example).

Can I Extend a Chile visa?

How to enter Chile if you Don’t Need a Visa?

Foreigners who do not need to apply for a Chilean visa before traveling can obtain a tourist card (Tarjeta de Turismo) upon arrival in Chile.

The Chilean Immigration Office at the airport/point of entry will issue you with his Tarjeta de Turismo in A5 paper size. This document must be submitted to the Immigration Bureau upon departure, so you must keep it for the duration of your stay.

What Happens if I Overstay in Chile?

When you arrive in Chile, you will be given a tourist card indicating the number of days you can stay in the country, whether or not you are a citizen who requires a visa. Tourist cards are issued for a maximum of 90 days, but can be issued for shorter periods.
