Do I Need a Visa for Egypt?

Yes, unless you are from one of the countries listed below, you must have a visa before entering Egypt.. However, many citizens can apply for a visa online or upon arrival, making the process less time-consuming.
Citizens of the following countries can enter Egypt without a visa for a stay of up to 90 days (unless otherwise stated):

  • Bahrain
  • Hong Kong
  • Kuwait
  • Lebanon
    • If you’re traveling by a charter flight, you can only enter through Borg El Arab Airport, Hurghada Airport or Sharm el-sheik Airport
  • Macao
  • Oman

Other Egypt visa-exemptions

You may also be eligible for an Egyptian visa if you are from one of the following countries and meet certain conditions:

Afghanistan – only if you are 50 years of age or older or 16 years of age and under
Algeria – only if you are under 14 years old
China – only if you have a return or onward flight ticket as well as a reservation at a 4 or 5 star hotel and 2000 USD (or equivalent amount in another currency) .
Libya – only if you are a woman or a resident of Butnan district on Sunday and Monday
Jordan – if you have an ordinary passport valid for 5 years and not stamped on the back cover by the Jordanian registration office
Lebanon – only if you are 50 or older or 16 or younger (for Alexandria and South Sinai, all ages can enter without a visa)
Morocco – only if you are 14 or younger
Sudan – only if you are 50 years or older or 16 years or younger or you are a citizen
South Sudan – only if you are 50 years or older or 16 years or younger or you are a citizen
Tunisia – only if you are 14 age and under
Yemen – only if you are 50 years or older or 16 years or younger or traveling for medical purposes
Palestine – you have a travel document issued by Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan or Syria and you are over 40 or under 18 years old

Additionally, you are also exempt from an Egypt visa if you:

You are traveling in a travel group of at least 5 people, have round-trip tickets, pre-booked accommodation and a letter of guarantee signed by the travel company and you are from one of the following countries:

  • Azerbaijan
  • Barbados
  • Belize
  • China
  • Costa Rica
  • El Salvador
  • Guatemala
  • Honduras
  • India
  • Jordan
  • Kazakhstan
  • Lebanon
  • Moldova (excluding women between the ages of 15 and 35)
  • Nicaragua
  • Russia
  • Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
  • Turkey

You are the child of an Egyptian father (unless you are from Syria, Iraq, Yemen or Qatar)
You are the child of an Egyptian mother born after 25 July 2004 (unless you are from Syria, Iraq , Yemen or Qatar)
You are a woman married to an Egyptian (unless you are from Syria, Iraq, Yemen or Qatar)

If you are from one of the countries listed below, before you can apply for an Egyptian visa at the consulate, you must receive prior authorization from the Egyptian State Security Authority:

Egypt Tourist Visa

The Egypt tourist visa is a type of Egyptian visa issued on a short-term basis – up to 90 days. Citizens of the above countries are exempt from applying for an Egypt tourist visa before traveling, but they are still required to apply for a visa if they want to stay long term.
Additionally, citizens of certain other countries can apply for an Egypt tourist visa upon arrival in Egypt or online.

When you apply for an Egypt visa, you need several documents to support your application, such as:

  • Egypt visa application form (two copies)
  • Two passport-sized photos of you (2 inches x 2 inches, white background, recent)
  • Your passport, valid for at least six months from date entry into Egypt and is valid for at least two blank pages
  • Two copies of the personal information page in your passport
  • If you are not a citizen of the country to which you are applying:
  • Residence permit your residence or other proof of legal residence
  • Proof of round trip or onward airline ticket
  • Proof of accommodation in Egypt
  • If you are traveling on business:
    Invitation letter from the company hosting you
  • Proof of payment of visa fee
  • If you are applying by post, attach a pre-paid, self-addressed letter. envelope so that the Egyptian embassy/consulate can return your passport and documents to you .

HOW TO APPLY FOR AN Egypt VISA?

Egypt e-Visas are processed in approximately seven days, so you should apply at least seven days before you intend to travel.
If you apply through an embassy or consulate, processing times will vary depending on the specific office. In most cases, this takes at least 10 business days, so remember to apply before you plan to travel but no sooner than three months.
If you are applying by mail, take into account the time it will take to send and return the documents.

Duration of an Egypt Visa

The duration of an Egypt visa depends on the number of permitted entries.

Do I need an Egypt Transit Visa?

The need to apply for an Egypt transit visa depends on the duration of your transit.

If your transit lasts less than six hours:
You do not need a transit visa, but you are not allowed to leave the airport
If your transit lasts between 6 and 48 hours, you can leave the airport and visit the Surroundings.You must present a valid passport and proof of onward travel.
If your transit lasts more than 48 hours, you must have a corresponding visa.
