If the applicant falls into any of the following categories, they may petition for permanent residence:
- Permanent residency in the Bahamas: Spouse of a Bahamian who, after five years of marriage, is still married and living together as husband and wife
- Individuals born legally outside of the Bahamas to a married Bahamas citizen wife whose husband is not a Bahamas citizen are eligible for permanent residency in the Bahamas.
- Permanent residency in the Bahamas: Investors or financially independent people with rightful ownership of a home in the Bahamas; notice that buyers willing to pay BS$1.5 million or more for a home will be given prompt consideration.
- Police and prison officers who have worked for the government for ten years or more are eligible to apply for permanent residency in the Bahamas.
- Teachers who have worked for ten years or more in the government service or for nonprofit or religious organizations are eligible to become permanent residents of the Bahamas.
- Nurses who have worked for at least ten years in private hospitals or healthcare agencies or the government service are eligible for permanent residency in the Bahamas.
- Ministers of Religion and Priests may obtain permanent residency in the Bahamas after working there for at least 20 years.
- Doctors and other medical professionals who have worked in the Bahamas for at least 20 years are eligible for permanent residency.
- Permanent residency in the Bahamas is granted to Haitian individuals who can produce documentation of their continuous stay in the Bahamas prior to January 1985, independent of their Haitian passports, which the department accepts as proof under the cover of an affidavit from a notary public.
- Individuals who have maintained legal status (employment or residency authorization) for more than 20 years are eligible for permanent residency in the Bahamas.
Apart from completing the Bahamas permanent residency application. The ensuing records are also necessary:
- a duplicate of the applicant’s passport’s biodata page
- Two similar color passport-sized photos of the applicant, with their name printed on the back (photos cannot be older than six months).
- an original police character certificate that was issued no more than six months before the Bahamas permanent residency application was submitted.
- Original birth certificate (If the certificate was not written in English, it should be translated into English and sealed by the appropriate Consular Office, along with a BS$10 Bahamian postage stamp if applicable).
- An original medical certificate that is dated no more than 30 days before the Bahamas permanent residency application is submitted
- Two unique character references written by Bahamian nationals who have known the candidate for at least five years
- certificate of birth for parents
- certificate of marriage for parents
- certificate of marriage (married individuals)
- Certificate of death for a spouse (widowed folks)
- decree of divorce (divorcees)
- Financial statements from the applicant’s financial institution confirming the applicant’s economic worth for permanent residency in the Bahamas and providing a range of figures
The $100 charge is refundable.
Bahamas Work Permit
Those who wish to work for a maximum of ninety days must get a work permit in the Bahamas, sometimes known as a short-term visa.
There are four phases involved in obtaining a work permit in the Bahamas:
- Fill out the relevant work permit application form.
- Write a letter requesting a Bahama work permit.
- Enclose the completed application form with the request letter and any other supporting documentation.
- Visit the Department of Immigration at any of the locations listed below to turn in the necessary paperwork and pay for your Bahama work permit.
Before submitting the form for a work permit in Bahama, the following supporting documents must be included to it:
a request letter from the potential employer to the Director of Immigration outlining the reasons for the application, the job description, and the amount of time needed.
a copy of the applicant’s passport’s biodata pages (the passport needs to be valid for at least six months).

- A declaration from the Bahamas Department of Labor that a Bahamian is unfit to hold the post, as well as the notification of vacancy, are attached.
There are no deadlines for this service. To receive an update, the individual must get in touch with the Labor Unit three to four weeks following the submission.
Bahamas visa
A letter of authorization from a different parent is necessary if a youngster is traveling to the Bahamas with one parent.
A registration card and the passport from the country of birth are needed for visits that are shorter than 30 days.
