Temporary residence for Croatia
Foreign nationals must apply for a Croatian temporary residency permit if they want to stay in the country for longer than ninety days. The process of being eligible for temporary residency in Croatia is not extremely difficult. To be eligible for a temporary residence visa in Croatia, one must provide documentation of long-term rental housing, property ownership, investment in a Croatian firm, or even ownership of a yacht that is permanently moored in Croatian seas. Depending on your reasons for staying in Croatia, temporary residence permits are provided for a year and are very easily extended.
For foreign nationals needing a visa, applications for Croatian temporary residency permits must be made at a Croatian embassy or consular office overseas. In Croatia, nationals of nations for whom a visa is not required may apply at any local police station.

Permanent residency for Croatia
Permanent residency of Croatia can be granted when:
– a foreign national has spent at least five years continuously living in Croatia while holding a valid Croatian work permit or temporary residence permit.
– A foreign national who has been married to a Croatian citizen for at least three years and holds a valid work permit or temporary residence permit in Croatia.
-A foreign national holding a valid work permit or temporary residence permit in Croatia must have been married to a foreign national holding a permanent residence permit in Croatia for a minimum of three years.
-If a child under the age of eighteen travels with a parent who has a Croatian permanent residency visa
Requirements for a successful permanent residency of Croatia application:
- A valid claim for permanent residency.
- (1) passport photo (35x45mm).
- (1) copy of your passport.
- Proof of financial means for permanent residence of Croatia.
- Proof of health insurance for permanent residency of Croatia.
- Proof of knowledge of the Croatian language.
- Birth certificate
- A completed application, provided by the MUP
If you have been in this country for five years, you may be eligible to apply for Croatian permanent residency if you are a volunteer or student. If you’re not sure, visit the MUP and make an inquiry well in advance of the expiration of your present residency—say, two months or more.
